Swiss Government Excellence Scholarships 2025–2026: Fully Funded Research & Arts Opportunities in Switzerland

Applications are now invited for the Swiss Government Excellence Scholarships for the academic year 2025–2026. The scholarships are open to international students and aim at promoting international mobility and research collaborations between Switzerland and more than 180 countries worldwide.

They are granted by the Federal Commission for Scholarships for Foreign Students (FCS) to postgraduate students and artists.

Scholarship Categories

1. Research Scholarships (PhD, Postdoctoral, and Research Fellowships):

  • Eligibility: Applicants must hold a master’s degree or equivalent achieved before July 31, 2025. They should be born after December 31, 1989. A well-structured research proposal and a letter of support from a Swiss academic host are mandatory.
  • Duration: 12 months, starting from September 1, 2025. For PhD scholarships, the duration can be extended up to 36 months based on academic performance.
  • Financial Support: Monthly stipend of CHF 1,920 for PhD and research scholarships; CHF 3,500 for postdoctoral scholarships. The scholarship covers living costs for one person. It is not a salary.

2. Art Scholarships:

  • Eligibility: Applicants must hold a bachelor’s degree or equivalent achieved before July 31, 2025. They should be born after December 31, 1989. These scholarships are available to students from countries with which Switzerland has a reciprocity agreement for art scholarships.
  • Duration: 12 months, starting from September 1, 2025. The scholarship can be extended up to 21 months depending on the chosen master’s program.
  • Financial Support: Monthly stipend of CHF 1,920. The scholarship covers living costs for one person.

    • Find the correct category of scholarship that applies to your academic or artistic endeavor.
    • Formulate a clear research proposal or artistic portfolio.
    • Obtain a letter of support from a Swiss host institution or academic.
