The Society for Italian Studies (SIS) is calling for applications for its first SIS Postdoctoral Fellowship 2025 –2026 academic year. Fellowship Overview
- Duration: 12 months (September/October 2025 – 2026)
- Location: Based at a UK or Irish university’s Italian Department of your preference
- Funding: £19,237 (or £21,237 if based in London), to match the AHRC PhD maintenance stipend
- Further Support: £500 relocation fee for those who have to relocate to a new institution
- Payment Schedule: Two payments made to the fellow
- Application Date: Friday, 9 May 2025, at 12 noon
- Notification Date: Friday, 6 June 2025

Eligibility Criteria
Applicants should:
Have completed their PhD viva (with any corrections signed off) at a UK or Irish university no earlier than 9 May 2023.
Suggest a project based on an Italianist theme with explicit potential for publication.
Be in a position to live in the UK or Ireland or be able to apply for a Graduate Visa.
You must obtain support from the Italian Department of a UK or Irish university (only one candidate per department will receive funding)

Project Description: A 1,000-word plan outlining your book project, contribution to Italian Studies, and plans for publication.
The head of the suggested host department must provide a 500-word statement explaining how they will mentor you and integrate you within the department.
Curriculum Vitae: A two-page CV outlining your academic record.
References: Names of two referees (references will only be requested for shortlisted candidates).
Please ensure all documents are submitted by Friday, 9 May 2025, at 12 noon.
