HZDR Germany PhD Scholarship 2025 – Fully Funded Opportunity in Biotechnology
The HZDR Germany PhD Scholarship 2025 is your chance to shine and study opportunity in Germany incase you’re passionate about sustainable biotechnology. Offered by the prestigious Helmholtz-Zentrum Dresden-Rossendorf (HZDR), this fully funded scholarship focuses on bioproduction and purification of siderophores — specially crucial molecules in mining, bioleaching, and environmental remediation areas.
This 36-month research opportunity is part of the Helmholtz Institute Freiberg for Resource Technology (HIF). The deadline to apply is June 30, 2025, so you must act quickly.
About the Research Project
The research falls under the Metallophore Group of the HIF Biotechnology department. The main focus of this opportunity and research is to develop efficient and scalable methods to produce siderophores — iron-binding compounds like Desferrioxamine B (DFOB), Desferrioxamine E (DFOE), and Bisucaberin (Bis)
Through methods like:
Native biosynthesis
Genetic engineering
Cell-free production systems
You will also work on improving bioreactor-based production and two-phase aqueous extraction systems for downstream purification. The aim of this research is to do contribution to circular economy models and sustainable raw material recovery.
