About IHE Delft Institute for Water Education
IHE Delft is the largest international graduate water education facility in the world, dedicated to training water professionals from developing countries which mainly focuses on education, research, and capacity building to address global water challenges.
Overview of the MSc Programme in Water and Sustainable Development
The Master’s programme aims to tackle water-related issues in their home countries. The curriculum covers various areas, including:
- Water and Health
- Water for Food
- Water, Peace, and Justice
- Water Hazards, Risks, and Climate
Also students have a option to choose between the regular and research variants of the programme, both designed to provide a comprehensive understanding of sustainable water management practices.
Scholarship Benefits
The SIDS Scholarships offer both full and partial funding options:
Full Scholarships
Tuition Fees: Payment of the full MSc programme tuition.
Living Allowance: €1,220 monthly to support living and accommodation costs.
International Travel: Return economy airfare to and from the Netherlands.
Health Insurance: Full coverage for the study period.
Partial Scholarships
For those who already have partial sponsorship from other sponsors (e.g., personal resources, employers, or other scholarships), partial scholarships are available to fill in the gap.
Eligibility Criteria
To be considered for the SIDS Scholarships, applicants must:
- Be a national of one of the eligible SIDS countries.
- Have academic admission to either the regular or research variant of the MSc Programme in Water and Sustainable Development.
- Live and/or work in one of the eligible countries.
- Agree to conduct MSc research in their home country/region, associated with one of the projects supported by the programme.
- Attend and help organize seminars arranged by the programme learning networks.
- Confirm their intention to return to their country of origin or another priority country of the programme after completing the MSc.
- Offer an employer statement as one of the two mandatory recommendation letters, explaining how the learnt knowledge and skills will be of benefit to the company and guaranteeing the return of the applicant after studies.

Application Procedure
- Academic Admission: Apply for admission to the MSc Programme in Water and Sustainable Development at IHE Delft.
- Automatic Scholarship Consideration: Upon acceptance, qualified candidates from the eligible SIDS nations will be automatically confirm for the scholarship; in such cases an additional application is not required.
- Documentation: Submit all necessary documents, such as:
- Bachelor’s degree certificate and transcript.
- Evidence of English proficiency (where necessary).
- Two recommendation letters, one of which must be an employer statement.
- Motivation statement addressing specific questions provided in the application.

Important: Please note that Applicants from Belize, Guyana, Jamaica, and Saint Vincent & the Grenadines are exempted to submit an English test score. For rest of the applicants, results must be received before 1 June 2025, otherwise they will not be eligible for the scholarship.

- Selection Criteria:
- Strong priority is given to female candidates.
- Applicants must demonstrate strong motivation and a solid academic background.
- Preference is given to candidates with relevant work experience.
- Candidates who can arrange co-funding from other sources may be given priority when equally qualified applicants are considered.
- Programme Requirements:
- Students are required to continue their MSc research in their home country/region, associated with one of the projects supported by the programme.
- Active participation in seminars organized by the programme’s learning networks is mandatory.
