The Joint Japan/World Bank Graduate Scholarship Program (JJ/WBGSP) 2025 is now accepting applications. This scholarship help out students who plants to their country’s future development, enabling them to pursue a master’s degree in key fields such as economic policy, tax policy, and infrastructure management.
Eligibility Criteria
To qualify for the Joint Japan/World Bank Graduate Scholarship Program (JJ/WBGSP), applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Nationality: Must be a citizen of a World Bank member developing country (dual citizenship in a developed country disqualifies an applicant).
- Education: Hold a bachelor’s degree earned at least three years prior to applying.
- Work Experience: Have at least three years of recent, paid, development-related work experience.
- Employment Status: Must be employed full-time in a development-related role at the time of application.
- Health: Must be in good health.
- University Admission: Must be unconditionally admitted (except for financial support) to one of the 41 JJ/WBGSP participating master’s programs outside their home country.
- World Bank Restrictions: Cannot be an Executive Director, alternate, staff member of the World Bank Group, or a close relative of any such individual.
- Previous Scholarship Holders: Those who previously received a JJ/WBGSP scholarship but did not complete the program are ineligible to reapply.
Scholarship Benefits
Selected scholars will receive comprehensive financial support, including:
- Full tuition for the master’s program.
- Economy-class airfare from the scholar’s home country to the host university (at the start and end of the program).
- A US $600 travel allowance for each trip.
- Medical insurance provided through the host university.
- Monthly living stipend covering accommodation, food, and books (varies by host country).
- Scholarship Duration: Covers the full master’s program duration, up to a maximum of two years.

Applicants can apply during one of the two application windows:
- Window 1: January 13 – February 28, 2025 (12:00 noon EST)
- Window 2: March 25 – May 23, 2025 (12:00 noon EST)
